Wasteless 2.0 exhibition
WAY OUT EAST GALLERY [2024] A series of multiples exploring the language of sculpture within new ecologies and economies. Beginning with an Arts Council England DYCP award for experimentation with sustainable materials using reprocessed waste diverted from landfill, the work then continued as part of a studio residence at STEAMhouse powered by Birmingham City University in 2023. Using the time in residence to develop material samples using reprocessed waste oyster and mussel shells with a composite binder to develop projects that blend art, industry and sustainability The most recent works were exhibited as part of Wasteless 2.0 at Way Out East Gallery. Presented as industrial and machine-made, yet being handmade, the cast sculptures employ the language of minimalism (through repetition, geometry) to reprocess and reimagine discarded and undervalued materials into a seductive aesthetic, attempting to challenge material hierarchies and notions of value |
