Which Worlds World Worlds (2026)
Mixed-media installation with porous sculptures [waste oyster shells, natural fibres, expanded volcanic glass, cementitious binder, organic matter], soundscape, site images
Commissioned by the British Council and Spreepark Art Space as part of Urban Streams residency in partnership with EUNIC Berlin
The mixed-media installation explores water, porosity, and a shift from infrastructural logics of control, efficiency, and extraction toward absorption, reciprocity, and care. Through porous ‘anti-pipes’ made from Symbiotic Structures material composite incorporating locally sourced oyster shell waste, the work proposes worlds that hold water, sound, sediment, and life rather than simply directing flow
Developed in response to the evolving ecology and redevelopment of Spreepark, the installation sits within tensions between wildness/management, ruin/regeneration, asking how natural and built systems continuously shape one another within urban space
The soundscape, composed by Ben K using field recordings gathered with local Berlin residents during participatory workshops alongside recordings from the site itself, extends these ideas sonically, treating sound as another porous medium of exchange between bodies, infrastructures, and environments
